G.R.E.A.T. Projects in Puerto Rico

Photographs used with permission.

Officer José Diaz received his certification in G.R.E.A.T. in Orlando, Florida, in 2001, and introduced the program in Puerto Rico soon afterward. He has been teaching the program there ever since. As a dedicated G.R.E.A.T. instructor, he has attended several G.R.E.A.T. conferences in order to improve his G.R.E.A.T. teaching skills. In August 2007, the first G.R.E.A.T. Officer Training conducted outside of the United States was held in Puerto Rico, adding more instructors to teach G.R.E.A.T. to more students around the island.

Officer Diaz, Officer Elizabeth Pacheco, and Officer Juan Rentas Maldonado are committed to the youth of San Juan, Puerto Rico. They go the extra mile to send the message that they do not tolerate gangs in their community. The officers also admitted that they could not have been as successful without the help of Ms. Milagros Alicea, who assisted with the seventh graders’ projects.
