Regional G.R.E.A.T. Officer In-Service Training
The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) is sponsoring regional in-service
training programs for G.R.E.A.T. instructors who have taught G.R.E.A.T. for at least
one year. The goal of the training is to provide participants with an interactive
and self-directed forum where they will learn:
- How to implement, fund, and market the G.R.E.A.T. Program.
- New ways to ethically respond to common situations involving school staff, parents,
and students using effective communication, interaction, and coping skills.
TOPICS
In addition to networking opportunities with fellow regional G.R.E.A.T. instructors,
the training will cover topics such as:
- Addressing participants’ issues that have arisen while instructing G.R.E.A.T.
- Maintaining, funding and marketing G.R.E.A.T.
- Proactive strategies for classroom management.
- Regional gang issues.
- Special needs and high-maintenance kids.
- Bullying behaviors.
- Updates to the G.R.E.A.T. Program.
EXPENSES
Tuition is free, and lodging will be provided for those commuting over 50 miles,
one-way. Therefore, participants can only attend the training that is offered in
their region. Participants will be responsible for their travel, meals, and miscellaneous
expenses. G.R.E.A.T. grant funds may be used for these expenses.
CLASS SIZE
Classes are limited to 36 participants per region so that students can actively
engage in self-directed learning processes while interacting with facilitators and
other G.R.E.A.T. officers. Additional Regional G.R.E.A.T. Officer In-Service Training
classes will be conducted. Please periodically check the schedule for updates.
